National Diploma in Civil Engineering (Applied) - Level 6

This qualification is for people who wish to have a career as a Civil Engineering Technician.  It also provides a pathway to registration as a Certified Engineering Technician (CertEng) with the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) and application for Associate Membership (AIPENZ).

 

This qualification has been developed to meet a real need of the New Zealand infrastructure industry for a national technician qualification that provides equivalent coverage to the former NZCE. 

 

The National Diploma in Civil Engineering (Applied) is made up of theoretical knowledge and applied skills.

 

Theoretical knowledge

This comprises the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Civil), which is a prerequisite and can be studied at any of the polytechnics below.  Study is flexible, with the options of either studying full time, or attending block courses while working in a cadetship.

Applied skills

This component of the National Diploma in Civil Engineering (Applied) is completed through the assessment and recognition of appropriate work experience and the practical application of skills.  Most of the evidence required for this component is compiled from work activities.
