Surveying qualifications

These qualifications have been developed and assessed in partnership with the
New Zealand Institute of Surveyors
 

National Certificate in Surveying (Assistant) - Level 3

 

This National Certificate provides essential skills and knowledge for surveying assistants working for professional surveyors or survey technicians.  It is designed for people entering or working in the land surveying sector of the surveying profession.

The certificate is completed through relevant work experience and on-job training.  You will learn how to work safely in the surveying industry, collect basic survey information and apply practical land surveying skills.  Compulsory units in mathematics, computing, communications, computer aided drawing, health and safety and temporary traffic management are included.

This certificate can lead to the National Diploma in Surveying - Level 6.

Training Plan


National Diploma in Surveying with an optional strand in Mine Surveying - Level 6
This National Diploma provides the knowledge and skills required by NZIS for survey technicians to carry out field and office work in civil construction and land development.

The diploma is undertaken either through the completion of workbook activities, recognition of relevant work experience and on-job training, or through full-time or part-time study at an accredited provider.

You will gain knowledge of computing, trigonometry, communications, land administration and working safely in the surveying workplace.  You will also gain core technical skills in geodetic surveying, land administration, subdivision design and survey practice.

This diploma builds on the National Certificate in Surveying (Assistant) - Level 3, although this is not a prerequisite.  It can also lead to the Bachelor of Surveying available at the University of Otago.  Graduates of this diploma are eligible for Associate Membership of NZIS (ANZIS).

An optional mining strand which recognises competence in underground surveying work is available through the Extractive Industries Training Organisation
