What is Infrastructure?
The infrastructure industry is responsible for creating the foundations New Zealand is built on.
Roads and pavements, highways and bridges, water and drainage systems, forestry
roading and rural development and maintenance – everything that keeps this country moving and working is built and
maintained by the infrastructure industry. The infrastructure
industry provides all the services that we all need up to the
pavement outside your house, office or school. Then other trades people
connect the services to your homes. To help you
understand what the infrastructure industry does here are some
typical projects
that infrastructure companies may complete:
- Property sub divisions
- Bulk earthworks
- Demolition
- Making new roads and bridges
- Maintenance of roads and bridges
- Laying pipes (pipelaying)
- Painting the lines and symbols on the road (roadmarking)
- Building pavements and gardens around a town or city
