Agrichemical application qualifications

These qualifications have been developed in partnership with industry, and are endorsed by Rural Contractors New Zealand.

National Certificate in Rural Contracting (Introductory Skills) - Level 1
This is an introductory certificate for people starting a career in the rural contracting industry and provides an excellent stepping-stone to the more specialist areas of agrichemical application.

You will gain knowledge of essential skills including workplace communication, calculations and measurements, operation of light vehicles, tractors and plant, and health and safety in a rural contracting workplace.

Training Plan


National Certificate in Agrichemical Application - Level 3 or 4
This qualification recognises the knowledge and skills essential to become a registered agrichemical application contractor.  It includes skills in preparation, application and transportation of agrichemicals, health and safety, regulatory requirements and accountability. 

Optional strands are available in Livestock External Parasites, Total Vegetation Control, Aquatic, Broadacre and Brush.

The National Certificate in Agrichemical Application, together with a minimum of 200 hours practical agrichemical application experience, is recognised by the New Zealand Agrichemical Education Trust (NZAET) as a prerequisite for the GROWSAFE® Registered Chemical Applicators Certificate.

Training Plan


National Certificate in Rural Contracting (Management) - Level 5
with a Strand in Agrichemical Application
This qualification recognises the knowledge and skills necessary to manage an agrichemical application business.  The core component covers taxation, finance, insurance, tenders and contracts, plant acquisition, employment agreements, risk management and health and safety. 

A specialist strand covers the planning, pricing and managing the implementation of an agrichemical application operation.
