To enrol in any of these qualifications, call 0800 486 626 to arrange for an InfraTrain regional advisor to complete a Training Plan and Training Agreement.

Rural contracting qualifications

These qualifications have been developed in partnership with industry, and are endorsed by Rural Contractors New Zealand.

National Certificate in Rural Contracting (Introductory Skills) - Level 1
This is an introductory certificate for people starting a career in the rural contracting industry.  You will gain knowledge of essential skills including workplace communication, calculations and measurements, operation of light vehicles, tractors and plant, and health and safety in a rural contracting workplace.

Training Plan


National Certificate in Agricultural Contracting - Level 3
This certificate covers the skills and knowledge for general or specialist agricultural contracting work.  The core qualification includes learning how to recognise the hazards associated with tractor use, operation of a basic wheel tractor with attached implement, tractor safety, workplace communications, health and safety, measurement and calculations, and planning a basic agricultural contracting operation.

Optional strands are available in Crop Production, Fencing, Harvesting, Land Development, Mechanical Vegetation Control, Transport and Zero Tillage.

Training Plan


National Certificate in Rural Contracting (Management) - Level 5
This qualification recognises the knowledge and skills necessary to manage an agricultural contracting business.  The core component covers taxation, finance, insurance, tenders and contracts, plant acquisition, employment agreements, risk management and health and safety. 

A specialist strand covers the planning, pricing and managing the implementation of a rural contracting operation.
